SSC JE Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the notification for the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026. Through this recruitment, SSC will conduct an open competitive examination for Junior Engineer posts in various Government of India departments and for the Scientific Assistant post in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A total of 1,748 tentative vacancies have been announced. Eligible candidates can apply online from 2nd September 2026 to 22nd September 2026. The posts are Group ‘B’ posts in Level-6 of the Pay Matrix.

Qualification

Junior Engineer (Civil):

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or Institute; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or Institute, wherever prescribed.

Junior Engineer (Electrical):

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute, wherever prescribed.

Junior Engineer (Mechanical):

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute, wherever prescribed.

Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical):

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, as prescribed for the concerned organization.

Junior Engineer (Telecom):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Instrumentation or other prescribed engineering disciplines from a recognized University or Institute.

Scientific Assistant – IMD:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognized institution or university; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering from a recognized institution or university.

The exact educational qualification and experience requirements vary according to the post and organization. Wherever experience is prescribed, it must have been acquired after obtaining the required educational qualification.

Salary Details

  • Pay Level: Level-6
  • Pay Scale: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400
  • Pay Commission: 7th Central Pay Commission

The selected candidates will receive salary and applicable allowances as per the rules of the concerned Government department/organization.

Age Limit

The crucial date for determining the age limit is 1st August 2026.

  • Most Posts: Up to 30 Years
  • Certain Posts: Up to 32 Years

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • PwBD: As per Government rules
  • Ex-Servicemen: As per applicable Government rules

Selection Process

The selection process for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 consists of:

  • Paper-I – Computer Based Examination
  • Paper-II – Computer Based Examination

  • Final Selection & Post Allocation

Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates who meet the required qualifying criteria will be shortlisted for Paper-II. Final merit and allocation will be based on Paper-II performance and the post/organization preferences submitted by the candidates.

Exam Pattern

Paper-I:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: 50 Questions / 50 Marks
  • General Awareness: 50 Questions / 50 Marks
  • General Engineering: 100 Questions / 100 Marks
  • Total: 200 Questions / 200 Marks
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • For eligible scribe candidates: 2 Hours 40 Minutes

Paper-II:

  • General Engineering: 100 Questions / 300 Marks
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • For eligible scribe candidates: 2 Hours 40 Minutes

Paper-I and Paper-II will consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The questions will be available in Hindi and English.

Negative Marking

  • Paper-I: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Paper-II: 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

  • UR: 30%
  • OBC / EWS: 25%
  • All Other Categories: 20%

Paper-I will be qualifying in nature, while normalized marks obtained in Paper-II will be used for determining the final merit.
