Qualification

The educational qualification varies according to the designated trade.

  • Rigger: Minimum 50% aggregate in 8th Standard.
  • Crane Operator Overhead (SI): Minimum 50% aggregate in 10th Standard.
  • Other Designated Trades: Minimum 50% marks in relevant subjects in 10th Standard and minimum 50% aggregate in ITI in the respective trade under NCVT or SCVT.

Candidates can apply for their respective ITI trade or corresponding NCVET-approved trades as permitted under the Apprenticeship Rules.

Eligible Candidates

  • Male and female candidates can apply.
  • ITI-qualified candidates can apply for the applicable designated trades.
  • Eligible non-ITI candidates can apply for the applicable trades such as Rigger and Crane Operator.
  • Fresh candidates can also apply subject to fulfilling the eligibility conditions.

Salary / Stipend Details

Selected apprentices will receive a monthly stipend as per the applicable MSDE guidelines.

  • ₹9,600 per month: Most designated trades, including Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, Machinist, Marine Engine Fitter, Mechanic Diesel, Shipwright Wood, Welders and other listed trades.
  • ₹8,200 per month: Crane Operator Overhead (SI)
  • ₹6,800 per month: Rigger

Maximum Stipend: ₹9,600 per month.

Training Duration

  • One Year: Most designated trades
  • 15 Months: Crane Operator Overhead (SI)
  • 18 Months: Pattern Maker
  • Two Years: Rigger and Shipwright Steel

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961.

  • Non-Hazardous Trades: Minimum age 14 years as on the crucial date.
  • Hazardous Trades: Minimum age 18 years as on the crucial date.
  • The crucial date for determining age and eligibility is the closing date of online registration.

Reservation Details

The 283 vacancies include reservation as applicable under the Apprenticeship Rules and Government guidelines.

  • SC: 28 vacancies
  • ST: 23 vacancies
  • OBC (NCL): 52 vacancies
  • UR: 180 vacancies
  • PwBD: 8 vacancies
  • ESM: 7 vacancies

Horizontal reservation is applicable for PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories as per the notification.

Selection Process

The selection of apprentices will be made through merit-based shortlisting and a written examination.

If the number of applications is very high, candidates may be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:25 for each available vacancy in each trade and category.

Merit Calculation

  • For most ITI trades, 50% weightage will be given to Class 10 marks.
  • 50% weightage will be given to ITI marks as reflected in the consolidated AITT statement issued by NCVET.
  • For Crane Operator (SI), 100% weightage will be given to Class 10 marks.
  • For Rigger, 100% weightage will be given to Class 8 marks.

Written Examination

The written examination will consist of objective-type questions in OMR format.

  • General Science: 35 Marks

Physical Standards

Candidates must satisfy the minimum physical fitness requirements prescribed under the Apprentices Rules.

  • Minimum Height: 137 cm
  • Minimum Weight: 25.4 kg
  • Minimum Chest Expansion: 3.8 cm
  • Candidates should be free from tuberculosis and contagious/infectious diseases.
  • Candidates should be free from chronic illness likely to be aggravated by training.

Medical Examination

  • Selected candidates must submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a Government Hospital.
  • The medical fitness requirement will be as per Rule 4 and Schedule II of the Apprentices Rules, 1992.
  • Original documents will also be verified before engagement.

Candidates can apply for more than one designated trade in the same application, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification. If examinations for multiple trades are scheduled in the same shift, the candidate can appear for only one of those examinations.

Examination Centre

The written examination will be conducted in Mumbai and its suburban districts such as Thane and Kandivali, as mentioned in the notification.

Important Note

  • This recruitment is for apprenticeship training and not a direct permanent appointment.
  • There is no upper age limit for apprenticeship training, subject to the prescribed minimum age.
  • Candidates already undergoing apprenticeship training in a Government, PSU or private industrial organization must terminate the existing apprenticeship contract and satisfy any applicable cooling-off requirement before applying.
  • Candidates must not submit multiple applications unnecessarily.
  • All information entered in the application must match the original documents.
  • Grade-point candidates must obtain an appropriate percentage conversion certificate or conversion chart from the concerned authority.
  • Original documents will be verified at a later stage.
  • Selected candidates must submit a Government Hospital medical fitness certificate before engagement.
  • Limited hostel facilities are available only for boys. Preference will be given to outstation candidates based on merit.
  • There is currently no hostel or lodging facility for female candidates.
  • Completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee regular employment in Naval Dockyard Mumbai.
  • After successful completion of apprenticeship, ex-Naval Apprentices may apply for Tradesman Skilled recruitment in Naval Dockyards when vacancies are notified, subject to the applicable recruitment rules and age limit.
