ITBP Head Constable Motor Mechanic Recruitment 2026: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has invited online applications from eligible male Indian citizens for recruitment to the post of Head Constable (Motor Mechanic). A total of 21 vacancies are available under General Central Service, Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted (Non-Ministerial). Qualification
Candidates applying for the Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) post must fulfil the prescribed educational and technical qualification.
- Must have passed 10+2 from a recognized Board or Institution.
- Must possess a Certificate in Motor Mechanic from a recognized Institution or Industrial Training Institute.
- Must have 3 years practical experience in the trade in a reputed workshop.
- OR candidates may possess a 3-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering.
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 25 years
- The crucial date for determining the age limit is 27th October 2026, the closing date of the online application.
- Candidates should not have been born earlier than 28th October 2001 and later than 27th October 2008.
Age Relaxation

Salary Details
The selected candidates will be appointed as Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) in Level-4 of the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission.

- Basic Pay Starting Point: ₹25,500/-

Pension Scheme
On appointment in ITBP, candidates can opt for either the New Defined Contribution Pension Scheme (NPS) or the United Pension Scheme (UPS), subject to the applicable Government rules and provisions.
Physical Standards
Candidates must fulfil the prescribed physical standards for height, chest and weight.
- Other States/Union Territories: Minimum height 170 cm; chest 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded.
- Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region of J&K and Ladakh: Minimum height 165 cm; chest 78 cm unexpanded and 83 cm expanded.
- North-Eastern States including Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura: Minimum height 162.5 cm; chest 77 cm unexpanded and 82 cm expanded.
- Weight: Proportionate to height and age as prescribed under the applicable medical examination guidelines.
Medical Standards
- Minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 in both eyes without correction.
- Visual correction of any kind, including glasses, is not permitted as specified in the notification.
- Binocular vision is required.
- Colour blindness will make a candidate ineligible for appointment.
- Candidates should not have knock knees, flat foot, varicose veins or squint in the eyes.
- Candidates should possess high colour vision.
- Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health and free from physical defects likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties.
Tattoo Rules
- Religious symbols or figures and names, as permitted under the applicable rules, may be allowed subject to the prescribed conditions.
- Permitted tattoo locations include the inner aspect of the left forearm and dorsum of the hands, subject to the notification’s conditions.
- The tattoo size must be less than one-fourth of the particular body part such as elbow or hand.
- Tattoo removal before recruitment may be treated as a scar if it has faded substantially, subject to medical examination and approval as prescribed.

Selection Process
The ITBP Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) recruitment consists of multiple stages. Candidates who fail to qualify at any stage will be eliminated from the recruitment process.
- Phase I – Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Phase II – Documentation / Verification of Original Documents
- Written Examination – 100 Marks
- Phase III – Practical (Skill) Test – 50 Marks

- Phase IV – Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
- Review Medical Examination (RME), if applicable
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- 1.6 Km Race: To be completed within 7 minutes 30 seconds
- Long Jump: 11 feet – 3 chances
- High Jump: 3½ feet – 3 chances
PET is qualifying in nature and no marks are awarded for PET. Candidates must qualify in each event. Candidates who fail any event will be eliminated at this stage. There is no provision for appeal in PET. PET will not be conducted for Ex-servicemen.
Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Candidates who qualify PET will undergo measurement of height, chest and weight, as applicable.
- Candidates who do not meet the prescribed physical standards will be eliminated.
- Candidates declared not qualified in height/chest may appeal in writing to the Presiding Officer on the same day for re-measurement.
- Underweight/overweight candidates may proceed to the next stage, with final medical fitness determined during Detailed Medical Examination.

Written Examination
The written examination will carry 100 marks and will consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The examination may be conducted through CBT or OMR mode at the discretion of ITBP.
- General Knowledge: 10 Questions – 10 Marks
- Mathematics: 10 Questions – 10 Marks
- Hindi or English: 20 Questions – 20 Marks
- Trade Related Theory: 60 Questions – 60 Marks
- Total: 100 Questions – 100 Marks
- Duration: 2 Hours
- The questions will be of 12th Standard level.
For Hindi/English, candidates can attempt 20 questions in either Hindi or English.
Written Examination Qualifying Marks
- General / EWS / Ex-Servicemen: 35%
- SC / OBC (NCL): 33%
Practical (Skill) Test
Candidates who qualify the written examination to the prescribed number will be called for the Practical (Skill) Test based on their written examination performance.

- Vehicle Inspection: 10 Marks
- Identification of Faults: 10 Marks
- Rectification of Defects: 25 Marks
- Handling of Tools: 5 Marks
- Total: 50 Marks
- Qualifying Marks: 50% for all categories
The Practical (Skill) Test is qualifying in nature.
Merit List
- Category-wise merit lists will be prepared for UR, SC, OBC (NCL), EWS and Ex-servicemen categories.
- The merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination.
- Based on merit and category-wise vacancies, candidates will be shortlisted for Detailed Medical Examination.
- There will be no reserve list.
- In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list.
- If the tie still persists, the candidate whose name comes first alphabetically in English will be placed higher.
Detailed Medical Examination
Candidates who qualify the PET, PST, documentation, written examination and practical skill test and are selected according to category-wise merit will undergo the Detailed Medical Examination (DME) to assess their medical fitness.
Review Medical Examination
- Candidates declared UNFIT during DME may undergo Review Medical Examination (RME), subject to submission of written consent.
- The consent for RME must be submitted within 24 hours after the candidate is informed about the DME result.
- RME is preferably conducted on the next day in continuation of DME.
- There is no provision for temporary unfitness.
- The decision of the Review Medical Board of ITBP is final and no second appeal will be entertained.
Training and Service Conditions
- Selected candidates will have to undergo Basic Training and other courses prescribed by ITBP from time to time.
- Candidates will be required to serve in the Force for a minimum period of 10 years.
- If a candidate resigns before completing 10 years of service, the prescribed amount towards three months’ pay and allowances or training cost, whichever is higher, may have to be refunded as per the notification.
- Selected candidates may be required to stay for more than one day at the Recruitment Centre at their own arrangement.
- No TA/DA will be paid for travel to and from the recruitment venue.
